POSITION DESCRIPTION: Environmental Scientist

As a Environmental Engineer/Geoscientist, you will be responsible for providing project advisory to the engineering staff of environmental jobs, assisting in business development, supervising and outlining work for technical accuracy and adequacy, and ensuring compliance with corporate policies, administrative procedures, contract conditions, and legal and ethical requirements. You will also be responsible for managing and coordinating soil and groundwater sampling programs, geo-environmental investigations, and other due diligence works, as well as participating in site development including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), RSC, Excess Soil Management Plans, and remediation projects. Additionally, you will provide technical advice to management and operating departments, devise and deliver practical and economical work solutions, monitor and keep abreast of emerging technical developments, and develop and promote technical solutions, options, and initiatives to meet client needs.
Key Responsibilities:
• Provide project advisory to the engineering staff of environmental jobs including conceptual design, fieldwork management, design analysis, and production of design documentation.
• Assist in business development.
• Outline and assign work and provide guidance for technical accuracy and adequacy. Ensure that all project and proposal work is carried out in full compliance with corporate policies, administrative procedures, contract conditions, and legal and ethical requirements.
• Supervise the work of other professional and technical staff.
• Ensure that project managers and other staff are using the correct level of technical input in their work.
• Manage and coordinate soil and groundwater sampling programs, geo-environmental investigations, and other due diligence works.
• Participate in all facets of site development including Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments (ESA), RSC, Excess Soil Management Plans, and remediation projects. Includes project coordination or management, field sampling, and reporting.
• Provide technical advice to management and operating departments.
• Devise and deliver practical and economical work solutions in office and site environments.
• Monitor and keep abreast of emerging technical developments, trends, and innovations to increase the company’s competitive advantage and meet current/future client requirements.
• Develop, provide, and promote technical solutions, options, and initiatives to meet client needs.
• Maintain ongoing communication, follow up, and delivery against promise with clients.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil / Environmental) or Bachelor of Science (Geology) from a recognized university.
• Registered as a P.Eng. with the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario OR P.Geo. with the Professional Geoscientists Ontario.
• 10+ years of relevant experience in environmental engineering in the fields of construction and transportation are required.
• Demonstrated experience in environmental investigations.
• Previous experience in a number of core environmental investigations and soil management.
• Experience in soil management will be highly regarded, as would experience in senior review of proposals and technical reports.
