Key Activities

• Operate and maintain water filtration systems to meet plant quality requirements.
• Operate and maintain the plant and warehouse fire protection systems.
• Assist in the planning and execution of capital projects involving utilities and piping systems.
• Function in the capacity of Relief Chief Steam Engineer as may be required from time to time.
• Responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of the steam boilers and hot water boilers and to ensure that all boilers and ancillary equipment are operated to industry best practices.
• Oversee and provide assistance to contractors when they are performing work relevant to the department.
• Ensure compliance with all codes and regulations issued under the BC Safety Standards Act and the BC Safety Authority.
• Responsible to operate and maintain building HVAC and refrigeration systems with the assistance of certified refrigeration contractors.
• Provide maintenance support and technical assistance for utilities (steam, water, air, gas, etc.), utility distribution and plumbing systems in all areas of the plant and warehouse.

Education And Experience Required

• High school diploma
• 3rd Class Engineer’s Certificate of Competency issued by the Government of the Province of British Columbia or have an Inter-Provincial Red Seal
• Certification and/or experience as a millwright or pipefitter would be an asset.

Competencies

• This is an attendance sensitive position.
• Proven ability to communicate clearly, both verbal and written, is essential.
• As this is not a closely supervised position the Engineer must be self-motivated and able to organize their time effectively.
• The Steam Engineer assumes a significant amount of responsibility and therefore must be able to react quickly and appropriately in stressful situations.
• This is a safety sensitive position.
• Employee must have the ability to work day, afternoon & graveyard shifts.
