Summary


Reporting to the Director of Remote Command Center, the Energy Engineer’s main responsibilities will include the audit, management and implementation of a portfolio-wide Building Controls Optimization program for the BGIS Connected Buildings Portfolio. The candidate will work closely with Facility Managers, Maintenance technicians, Project Specialist, contractors, consultants, and the client. The candidate will require technical expertise in the following areas:


  • BAS energy reduction and demand management strategies.
  • Building Automation System (BAS) – Operation, control sequence, trending, audit and optimization.
  • Ability to manage programs from concept inception to implementation.
  • Conducting BAS assessment to develop operational and energy efficiency measures.


Key Duties & Responsibilities


BAS Audits


  • Validate viability of measures with operating personnel (Facility Managers, Maintenance Supervisor, etc).
  • Analyze BAS trends and system generated alerts (and utility and meter data if available) to develop building-specific energy efficiency measures and associated savings estimates.


Operational Efficiency


  • Implement efficiency measures involving the following specific responsibilities: energy efficiency program management, contractors and staff management; develop budget and reports.
  • Assist in development and oversight of operational efficiency measures, including retro-commissioning; analysis and efficiency measure development from MT&R strategies. Work with Facility Managers and on-site technical staff to drive buy-ins of operational and energy measures.
  • Assist in the measurement and verification of energy savings measures.
  • Provide technical review and and economic feasibilities assessment of improvement ideas from others and make recommendations.


Training/ Expertise


  • Act as a resource to management and field staff in regard to energy management.
  • Coordinate training/energy awareness initiatives for staff on relevant energy topics.


Knowledge & Skills


  • Strong background in building operations and optimization.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to work with people across multi-disciplines to ensure program adoption and implementation.
  • Excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Bilingual proficiency is an asset.
  • Strong written, oral, and presentation skills.
  • Development of building conservation and demand management plans.
  • Energy analytics.
  • Experience in conducting Measurement and Verification per IPMVP an asset.
  • University degree in either Mechanical or Electrical Engineering and Professional Engineer Designation with minimum 5 years’ experience in the energy management, with a thorough background in utility markets, building optimization/controls, and building systems.
  • Conducting building energy assessment and energy efficiency measure development.
  • Sound knowledge of economic analysis tools (Life-cycle cost analysis, ROI, NPV, payback).
  • Proficiency in report writing and in using MS Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Access).
  • Ability to manage programs from concept inception to implementation.
  • Project Management experience related to the development and implementation of energy retrofits or programs.
  • Detail-oriented, professional and approachable.


Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation


  • Drivers’ License.
  • CEM, LEED accreditation.
