Job Description

The Canadian Poultry and Egg Processors Council (CPEPC) is the national trade organization representing commercial processors of egg and poultry products and hatchery businesses in Canada.Now in our 73rd year of operation, CPEPC represents some of the largest agri-food corporations in Canada. Our member companies process over 90% of Canada's chicken, turkey, eggs and hatching eggs.We are currently seeking a Director – Regulatory & Technical Affairs, a senior, permanent full time position based in Ottawa, Ontario and reporting to the President & CEO.

Major areas of focus are:Food Safety and Animal Health & Welfare.Specific focuses include:

  • Assume the role of primary contact for members of CPEPC’s Poultry Operations & Technical Committee – made up of experts in production and quality assurance from our members’ chicken and turkey primary and further processing plants.
  • Monitor regulatory and operational issues and developments in the poultry processing industry, both nationally and internationally and provide advocacy to members, other CPEPC staff and CPEPC’s President.
  • Facilitate discussions on interpretation and enforcement issues with CFIA headquarters, and potentially CFIA Regional Directors on issues affecting members.
  • Work with national producer groups on supply chain issues affecting food safety and animal health & welfare.
  • Participate as required, in industry, government and stakeholder meetings on behalf of CPEPC and represent its members.
  • Communicate with members, prepare materials for and chair meetings of technical representatives as required and facilitate consensus CPEPC positions on key technical and regulatory issues.
  • Monitor the regulatory process of the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada (AAFC), Health Canada (HC), Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and provincial Ministries of Agriculture to ensure that the interests of poultry and egg processing and hatchery business are considered in changes to legislation and regulation.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate must demonstrate an understanding of regulatory and technical issues from a broad perspective.This position requires strong written and verbal communication skills, along with the ability to forge relationships, build consensus, influence various stakeholders and lead change.The successful candidate must demonstrate both analytical and administrative skills including proficiency in Microsoft 365. Post secondary education in Science or Agriculture or other applicable discipline and / or a regulatory background or food industry experience, is required.

This position requires the ability to work independently and collaborate closely with other CPEPC staff, members and key stakeholders.CPEPC is implementing a hybrid work policy that provides the benefit of some flexibility to work from home combined with days in the office with colleagues. The position requires the flexibility to work outside of regular office hours when required and involves some travel.Working language is English and fluency in French is an asset.
