Qualifications

Successful completion and/or enrollment in the Food Service Worker Certification Program

Successful completion and/or enrollment in the Food Handlers Program (Public Health Department)

Ability to lift a minimum of 20 lbs.

Technical Competencies

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English

Ability to read and follow standardized recipes and production sheets

Basic understanding of Therapeutic Diets

Solid understanding of portion control

Knowledge of H.A.C.C.P.

Experience

Previous Food Service experience in an institutional setting preferably long term care

Examples

Environmental Management

• Using appropriate levels of supplies
• Removing waste
• Reporting on broken equipment and building repair needs
• Infection control
• Spot cleaning
• Mixing cleaning solutions
• Adhering to legislative requirements (e.g., WHMIS)
• Vacuuming
• Sweeping/mopping floors

Customer Service

• Prepares and delivers attractive and nutritious meals and nourishments for residents including special diets and textures.
• Follows the nutritional guidelines as prescribed for the resident
• Supports the unique needs of residents e.g.: adaptive aides, opening containers etc.
• Participates in resolving resident and family complaints/concerns
• Prepares and delivers attractive meals to other customers

Maintaining Stock & Supplies

• Monitoring inventory of supplies

Occupational Health and Safety Accountabilities

• Follow safe work practices as directed by their supervisor and as required by the applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
• Report any known or identified health and safety hazards or violations to their supervisor.
• Carry out all assigned duties in compliance with applicable Occupational Health and Safety legislation and Company policy.
• Refrain from any conduct that puts themselves, workers, contractors or others at risk.
• Participate in all required occupational health and safety training.
• Use appropriate equipment and wear personal protective equipment or clothing, as required by Extendicare/ParaMed.

• Using another person’s username or password to access information
• Respect and preserve the privacy, confidentiality and security of health care and employee information at all times. Violations of this statement include, but are not limited to:
• Disposing of confidential information inappropriately
• Discussing confidential information in a public area
• Leaving confidential health care or employee information in public areas
• Disclosing to another person the unique username or password for accessing electronic confidential health care information
• Accessing confidential information that is not within the scope of the individuals duties
• Extendicare’s Code of Business Conduct and Standards of Employee Conduct policies are to be adhered to by the employee groups they apply to at all times.
• Misusing, disclosing without proper authorization, or altering confidential information

Resident/Family Safety Accountabilities

• In the interest of the safety of residents and family members, employees while on duty are accountable to carry out all duties assigned within the scope of their job in compliance with applicable legislation, standards and company policy.
• Refrain from any conduct that puts residents and family members at risk.
