Reporting to the Director of Operational Excellence, the Data Science Specialist will be responsible for using advanced statistical analysis such as predictive and prescriptive statistics to help solve and develop solutions to complex organizational problems. They will make recommendations on how to advance the use of predictive and prescriptive analytics and ultimately the use of artificial intelligence. The Data Science Specialist will work with our Data Modellers to develop the infrastructure required to enable advanced analytics. The successful candidate will be an expert in data science with strong knowledge of statistical modelling, machine learning and artificial intelligence and will have experience in healthcare analytics and will have a proven track record for delivering results.


This is an exciting opportunity to join a leading-edge Decision Support team in an organization that is embarking on a digital health transformation journey.


This position will have a hybrid working model consisting of remote and onsite work.


Responsibilities


  • Collaborate with hospital teams to achieve strategic and operational priorities
  • Lead projects focused on advancing the analytic capabilities of the organization
  • Design, develop and implement advanced analytic models to aid in problem solving and organizational decision making using machine learning, deep learning and other data science techniques
  • Lead all aspects of assigned projects
  • Develop and deliver training programs to advance data literacy and use of statistical, analytic, machine learning tools
  • Coach and support hospital teams in the use and application of advanced analytics


Skills and Qualifications


  • Strong understanding of programming languages such as Python, R, SQL and manipulation libraries, such as NumPy, Pandas
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Data Science, Computer Science or Statistics or a related field
  • Communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders
  • Expertise in data science
  • Experienced working with healthcare data, health records and strong familiarity with healthcare privacy regulations such as Freedom of Information Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA), Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA) and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)
  • Excellent problem solving skills, communication and presentation skills
  • Strong presentation and communication skills
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in healthcare analytics is preferred with a tracker record of delivering results
  • Knowledge of database design and experience working with complex data structures
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Strong understanding of AI, machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing and other advanced statistical modeling techniques
  • Expertise in data visualization tools such as Power BI
  • Keeping up-to-date with the latest trends and tools in data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to continuously improve and innovate
