About the Team: Data and Policy Department

The Data and Policy Department works to strengthen Innovate BC’s position as a central data and resource hub for the technology and innovation ecosystem in British Columbia. This dynamic team supports the corporate goals and objectives of Innovate BC by governing and managing the use of data for decision-making, reporting and informing policy and government programs. Our work includes: data management, development of internal standards for data collection, visibility, compliance and reporting, systems optimization, fostering data literacy internally and partnering externally to generate data on needs, trends and gaps as the relate to the innovation economy.


About the Job: Data Administrator

Innovate BC is seeking an entry-level Data Administrator to join our team. This role is ideal for a driven individual who is a quick learner and possesses a strong attention to detail. The Data Administrator will play a crucial role in supporting data management efforts, ensuring data accuracy and maintaining communication with program partners and participants to review and validate data. This position offers an opportunity to work in a highly collaborative culture, where asking questions and tracing information back are highly encouraged.


Reporting to the Director, Data and Policy, this role requires a balance of data management and storage and process optimization . You will play a critical role in organizing, cleaning, and validating data to ensure its accuracy, consistency, and integrity. You will work closely with various teams and stakeholders to support data-driven decision-making and promote efficient data management practices. This position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of data management principles.


Major Accountabilities

Data Collection and Entry:

  • Assist in the collection and entry of data from diverse sources, including surveys, reports, and databases.
  • Follow established protocols and guidelines for accurate and efficient data entry into the organization's data management systems.
  • Conduct regular data quality checks to identify and resolve discrepancies, errors, or missing information.

Work closely with team members and stakeholders to obtain data in a timely manner.

Data Validation and Cleansing:

  • Support the validation and cleansing of data to maintain data integrity and consistency.

Assist in reviewing data for completeness, accuracy, and adherence to predefined data standards.

  • Employ data cleansing techniques to identify and rectify data quality issues, such as duplicate records, formatting errors, and inaccuracies.

Collaborate with team members and partners to resolve data inconsistencies and ensure data accuracy.

Reporting and Analysis Support:

  • Assist in extracting and transforming data for ad-hoc requests while ensuring data security and privacy protocols are strictly followed.
  • Assist in generating reports and data visualizations to support program evaluation, performance monitoring, and decision-making processes.

Data Management and Documentation:

  • Assist in implementing data management policies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Help maintain organized and up-to-date data repositories, ensuring data files and documentation are properly labeled, stored, and archived.

Contribute to data governance practices, including data access controls, permissions, and user roles.

  • Stay informed about emerging data management technologies, tools, and industry standards, actively participating in learning opportunities.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as data science, computer science, statistics, or a related discipline. Relevant work experience or equivalent educational qualifications may be considered.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the confidence to ask questions and seek clarification.
  • Quick learner with the ability to grasp new concepts and technologies swiftly.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to trace information back to its source.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and quality.
  • Highly collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other data management tools.
