Canada is the home market for our Tim Hortons restaurant brand, and we seek to create innovative products and technologies to deliver digital consumer experiences that enhance guest interactions with the brand (the “Ecosystem”). As our Director, Legal, Tim Hortons Ecosystem, you will work closely with internal stakeholders on business and legal issues relating to the creation and implementation of the Ecosystem. This will include facilitating the accomplishment of our business strategies and objectives, while ensuring legal compliance and limiting our exposure to risk.


Responsibilities


  • Conduct legal review and provide support of online, mobile and other digital platforms that deliver or assist in the delivery of payment solutions and ecommerce
  • Support in the review and drafting of software, software as a service (SaaS), ecommerce, and data and technology agreements
  • Perform other general legal and/or business duties and functions as may be assigned or required by business needs
  • Advise business and technology stakeholders on matters related to compliance with laws and regulations on consumer protection, money transmission and anti-money laundering
  • Work with legal team as well as internal and external stakeholders to ensure that the Ecosystem and related products and services comply with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Review, negotiate and draft a wide range of agreements, including master services agreements, user terms of service, licensing agreements and commercial contracts
  • Provide legal counsel to the Ecosystem team and related business teams in the areas of payment solutions and ecommerce
  • Review and draft legal agreements relating to payment solutions and retail sales


Qualifications


  • Highly organized and demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-tasking, fast paced environment
  • Knowledge of Canadian consumer protection and financial services laws and regulations, including anti-money laundering regulations
  • Results-oriented
  • Experience with drafting and negotiating commercial agreements, master services agreements, licensing agreements and technology agreements
  • Law degree from an accredited law school as well as Licensing: Member in good standing with a provincial or territorial law society of Canada
  • 6+ years of commercial contract or transactional legal experience; law firm experience is preferred
  • A positive attitude and ability to work well within teams and the skills to work across business functions and cultures
  • Experience in financial services sector, particularly with card networks and products or digital payment solutions, is preferred
