Core Network Engineer [Eastlink]

Role Description

Reporting to the Manager of Core Network Engineering and Operations, the Core Network Engineer will be responsible for Eastlink’s mobile core infrastructure. The incumbent will be working collaboratively, both within the team and with other departments, to deliver on projects, to ensure the operation of existing systems, and to participate in design of future systems and technologies.

Supporting a broad range of technologies, the candidate will need to have a high aptitude for self-learning, where research is often required. The role is that of a self-starter with good troubleshooting skills, excellent time-management skills, who thrives in collaborative environments and can handle tight timelines with high quality expectations. Some after-hours maintenance work, occasionally in our datacenters, will be required from time-to-time, as will participation in an on-call rotation for after-hours support.

Qualifications

• Post-secondary education in IT or Telecommunications-related field.
• Any experience with cloud systems such as Openstack, or containerization technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes, is an asset.
• Any background relating to mobile core networks or telecom signaling protocols, is desirable.
• Web development background is an asset.
• IP networking background desired. Certifications such as CCNA are an asset.
• Working knowledge of packet analysers such as Wireshark is desired.
• VoIP background desired. Any experience with SIP protocl is an asset.
• Scripting/Programming background desired. Familiarity with node.js or Javascript is an asset.
• 2-3 years of working experience in IT/Telecom related field.
• Any experience maintaining DNS systems (eg; Bind) is an asset.
