WSP is seeking a skilled and experienced Construction Inspector to join our Municipal Engineering team, based out of our Halifax office. Reporting to the Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for conducting inspections of construction projects to ensure compliance with the design, standards and specifications.

Responsabilities


  • Review and understand construction plans, drawings, standards, codes, and specifications.
  • Ensure approved construction materials are used and acquired from approved sources and a record is kept of such materials.
  • Ensure contractor adheres to all contract requirements, as per Contract Administrator’s direction, e.g. legal, environmental, construction standards, etc.
  • Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure inspection tasks are completed and recorded in a prompt and accurate manner. Maintain detailed daily diaries of contractor’s work, progress and other observations.
  • Conduct as-built surveys and ensure that work is being carried out as designed and in compliance with the design, standards and specifications.
  • Other duties, as assigned.
  • Recognize when extra work needs to be done and report to the project’s Contract Administrator.
  • Travel to, work on and walk long distances across varying terrains on contract sites throughout Nova Scotia.


Qualifications


  • Degree or diploma in surveying, engineering, construction management, or a related field, from an accredited college, OR 5+ years of experience in municipal infrastructure construction. Other construction trades experience may be considered.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and standards.
  • Experience in inspecting and surveying civil infrastructure construction scopes such as water, storm and sanitary systems, roads and highways, building sites, etc.
  • Experience with construction surveying, surveying equipment and software, including total stations, GPS, and AutoCAD would be an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Basic to intermediate computer skills are required (e.g. use email, navigate folders, download photos, upload survey data, ability to use or learn to use AutoCAD, etc.)
  • Strong knowledge of civil construction methods and materials.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule inspection work.
  • Driving is an essential duty of this position. The successful candidate must have a valid driver's licence and access to reliable transportation. Proof of a valid driver's licence will be required upon being hired.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
