Job Summary

We are seeking a CO2 Storage Geoscientists to join Western Area & Strategic Exploration Department. The Western Area & Strategic Exploration Department (WA&SED) ultimate goal is to find hydrocarbon & non-hydrocarbon resources through strategic & sustainable exploration programs that integrate the best talent, optimal processes and leading-edge technologies in a safe and cost-effective manner. A qualified candidate will be part of a competent team of geoscientists, work collaboratively to maintain a healthy portfolio for CO2 storage. Technical responsibilities include all aspects of well and seismic data interpretation and integration to generate candidate CO2 sinks, associated with volume ranges, and risk assessment. The candidate is also expected to come up with innovative ideas for the portfolio, and to interact with multi-disciplinary stakeholders, in order to generate efficient operational plans to assess storage targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in the planning and interpretation of geomechanical information, such as the analysis of conventional core, to assess seal integrity for CO2 storage.
  • Apply sequence stratigraphic techniques to identify storage opportunities.
  • Possess skills in structural geology, including fault interpretation and assessment of fault seal.
  • Provide mentorship and technical assistance to young professionals.
  • Conduct exploration mapping and generate options for CO2 storage in the subsurface geology of Saudi Arabia.
  • Make critical decisions and solve problems.
  • Possess knowledge of CO2 properties and their relationship to storage depth, seal effectiveness, long-term trapping mechanisms, subsurface dynamics, and interactions with subsurface materials such as lithologies and drilled wells.
  • Familiarity with well injection testing and operations, and interpretation of well test data to evaluate reservoir performance in relation to CO2 storage.
  • Work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Interpret well information, perform well correlations, and collaborate with petrophysicists to define stratigraphic frameworks, reservoir properties, seal properties, and characterize in-situ formation water properties.
  • Conduct storage volume and risk estimates.
  • Understand the process of depth conversion of seismically-mapped geological surfaces, considering velocity information and uncertainties.
  • Proficient in map making using industry-standard tools.
  • Prepare and deliver professional-quality presentations to technical peers and management.
  • Interpret seismic data, including seismic stratigraphic interpretations, to identify storage opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Experience with non-hydrocarbon subsurface management challenges, such as geothermal, hydrogen storage, chemical storage, would be advantageous.
  • Hold a Bachelor's or higher degree in Geology or Geophysics.
  • A track record of research publications or patents would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrate competence in basic well log interpretation and familiarity with advanced logs and well data, such as image logs, NMR, pressures, and core.
  • Have in-depth knowledge and experience in petro-technical applications related to well and seismic data for subsurface storage geoscience, utilizing software such as Petrel and Petrosys.
  • Possess excellent presentation skills.
  • Fluent in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams across different parts of an organization.
  • Have experience in planning and being involved in operational decision-making for several wells.
  • Have over 15 years of experience in subsurface geoscience, including significant experience in geological interpretation, mapping, and preferably CO2 subsurface storage option mapping, selection, and site characterization.
  • Possess extensive experience in applying Clastic and Carbonate Sequence and Seismic Stratigraphy, as well as Regional Geology using seismic and well data to document subsurface storage option generation, ranking, and characterization.
