Job Summary

Be a part of a dedicated team who is passionate about achieving our vision of an inclusive and supportive community where children, youth and their families thrive.

In June 2019, the Ministry of Mental Health and Addictions (MMHA) released the provincial cross-ministry strategy, "A Pathway to Hope: A roadmap for making mental health and addictions care better for people in British Columbia", which establishes a 10-year vision for mental wellness, improved mental health care and the establishment of an effective substance use prevention, addictions treatment and recovery system and identifies four sets of priority actions government will take over the next three years.

In moving forward, government has defined the following four pillars as a core foundation of the roadmap: wellness promotion and prevention; seamless and integrated care; equitable access to culturally safe and effective care; and, Indigenous health and wellness.

As part of the provision of Early Years Mental Health and wellness support this position works as part of an integrated team providing services to children and families. This team comprises agency and community staff who will provide supports and interventions to families through the enhancement and expansion of Child Development Centre services.

This will include working with Elders, urban Indigenous agencies, Katzie First Nation, natural supports and other professional supports.

MCFD's community-based Child and Youth Mental Health (CYMH) clinicians work in partnership with families and communities to foster positive mental health outcomes and well-being for children and their families.

The primary responsibility of this specialist is to provide mental health services to children from birth to age six and their families as part of the integrated team. This can include direct clinical services such as intake, assessment, treatment, suicide risk assessment, safety plans and crisis intervention for children and their families.

  • Must possess and maintain a valid class 5 BC Driver's license with no restriction or equivalent (i.e. from another Canadian Province).
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working with parents/caregivers and children 6 years of age and under.
