As Assistant General Manager you will oversee crop farming operations (>25,000 acres) located in southern Saskatchewan, in collaboration with the Management team. This will include creating, recommending and executing annual cropping plans.
Your leadership and crop production skills will support farm staff with farming operations, crop agronomy, annual budgets and human resources to ensure short and long term profitability and success.
Reporting to the President based in Regina, Saskatchewan, you will be a vital contributor to the continued growth of this highly respected Saskatchewan supplier of food products on both a national and international scale. Lots of opportunity for growth!
In this newly created Management role, you will:
Management and Planning
- Serve as the company contact for external crop agronomists and retail network representatives.
- Participate in crop planning sessions including initial crop plan, final plan and proforma and in-season forecasting. Review crop history, create a cropping plan with/for Management review, discuss with farm operators and roll out.
- Work with or assist Management in sourcing required products.
- Plan, communicate and ensure all necessary resources, including staff resources, are available to provide timely applications and work deliverables.
- Serve as management liaison, advisor and agronomy specialist, working closely with farm operators and employees to support, mentor and promote farming operations’ success.
- Work together with Management, the farm Accounting team and Farm Operators to plan crop protection and in-crop nutrient products for each farm location.
- Represent the organization within the community and within the ag industry. Attend or participate in tradeshows, product training, conferences, seminars/workshops, etc. to enhance knowledge of crop protection products, technologies, new practices and products.
Farm Operations Leadership and Support
- Complete crop scouting to identify crop needs in a timely fashion.
- Conduct all operations with a Safety First approach including awareness of all hazards associated with each farm activity. Ensure all operators and product handlers are equipped with necessary safety equipment.
- Travel to farm operation sites to review and discuss pro forma (cropping plans) with Farm Operators.
- Communicate requirements with Farm Operators to ensure product application is timely. Record all application data and information, daily and/or by field.
- Oversee timely maintenance of equipment, and maintain the yard sites in a tidy, clean manner.
- Conduct other general farm tasks and train operators as required.
- Provide daily support to farming operations during the spring seeding and fall harvest periods. Be prepared to fill in as required during operational shortfalls.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
▪ Diploma or Degree in Agriculture is preferred or related field experience with an emphasis on crop production, soil science and plant science.
Recommended but not critical: Pesticide applicators certificate, 1A driver’s license, Certified Crop Advisor as well as applicable safety certifications.
Experience:
▪ Related farming, crop production and agronomy experience.
A mix of education and experience or an equivalent amount of agriculture industry/agronomy experience. Consideration will be given to a new University grad with a farming background, agronomist, semi-retired farmer, experienced farmer/farm worker.
Computer: Proficient in Excel, Outlook and Word. Able to learn CRM (customer relationship management) software. Well versed in computers

- Self-motivated individual with a strong drive to achieve results. Excellent organizational, time management and planning skills.
- Willing to ‘pitch in’ as needed to help on the farm, from human resources support to hands-on work during seeding or harvest time.
- Personality – open to, and up for being part of a team, in line with defined goals and strategy. Open to continuous learning.
Mon-Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm (40 hours/week). Overtime if needed, particularly in spring or fall.
Willing to be hands-on if needed.
Travel to Indian Head and Colfax farms (approx 45 min from Regina), as well as attending tradeshows or seminars.
