Job Description
Under the supervision of the infectious diseases coordinator and as a member of the infectious diseases team of the Public Health Department of the Nunavik Regional Board of Health and Social Services (RRSSSN), the nurse or nurse clinician participate in population screening for tuberculosis and sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections (STBBIs), including syphilis.
You will need to be available to work in a Nunavik community for a period of 4-6 weeks in fall 2023 or winter 2024 for door-to-door screening.
More specifically, if you are assigned to the screening team, you will be called upon to:
  • Contribute to communication and community engagement activities;
  • Record the information in the various databases (eg provincial vaccination register, screening sheets, etc.);
  • Take blood samples (eg quantify), urine samples (eg gonorrhea and chlamydia screening), induced sputum, etc.;
  • Participate in community population screening strategies (schools, workplaces, door-to-door, etc.)
  • Perform other related duties.
  • Perform the clinical nursing assessment;
  • Apply screening algorithms;
  • Perform and read tuberculin skin tests (TCT);
In addition, if you are assigned to the care of patients, you will be called upon to:
  • Ensure close follow-up of files;
  • Contribute to communication and community engagement activities;
  • Collaborate closely with the public health team, the physician-clinician and all other health professionals involved;
  • Initiate treatment for newly diagnosed cases of TB and/or STBBIs
  • Carry out contact case investigations;
  • Perform other related duties.
Qualifications
  • Aptitude for teamwork;
  • Excellent adaptability;
  • DEC in nursing or bachelor's degree in nursing;
  • Member in good standing of the OIIQ;
  • Mandatory English-French bilingualism;
  • Great flexibility and ready to work according to a variable schedule;
  • Driver's license if conducting door-to-door screening;
  • Up-to-date CPR/DEA certification;
  • Experience in vaccination/vaccination campaign, tuberculosis and/or STBBI an asset;
  • Be available between September and the end of December 2023 for a period of 4-6 weeks or in winter-spring 2024 for other screening activities.
  • Experience in Nunavik and knowledge of Inuit culture an asset;
  • Knowledge of the Office Suite;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • Experience in pediatrics an asset;
  • Experience in an intercultural context an asset;
  • Knowledge of the Quebec immunization protocol (PIQ);
Candidates who are beneficiaries of the James Bay and Northern Québec Agreement shall receive priority.
Conditions And Benefits
One-year occasional part-time temporary position with possibility of extension;
During travel, the northern premiums are paid and accommodation is provided;
Salary according to the rules established by the MSSS ($25.81/h to $47.98/h).
