About this opportunity:

The Environment and Regulatory Services (E&R) group partners with business functions to reduce environment and regulatory risk, sustain operations and enable Environment Social and Governance (ESG) leadership.

The successful candidate will be a subject matter expert providing data visualization and data management support to enhance Cenovus’s mitigation of environmental and regulatory risk. The position provides service to all E&R Teams (Water Resources, Air Emissions Management, Regulatory Services, Regulatory Compliance, and Environmental Operations), whose work supports a diverse range of Cenovus operations.

Responsibilities:

Lead projects to deliver data analytics and visualization solutions to all Environment & Regulatory Teams. Specifically:

• Identify and execute data analytics solutions to support ESG data migration projects.
• Leverage analytics tools to support technical assessments (e.g. hydrogeologic analysis of pressure and chemistry datasets).
• Lead multidisciplinary initiatives including E&R and business representatives to action improved processing and analysis of ESG data, including QA/QC.
• Manage E&R interfaces with Corporate data teams.
• Leverage data analytics tools to identify trends and anomalies in support of environmental management improvement initiatives.
• Build environmental dashboards from complex internal and public datasets relating to emissions, water, waste, spills, chemistry, and regulatory compliance.
• Build capacity for maintaining dashboards within E&R by mentoring staff and managing E&R dashboard inventory.
• Develop data analytics/visualization processes and procedures for E&R.

Qualifications:

• Working knowledge and experience with Python or R.
• Experience in Oil and Gas and familiarity with common data uses (production, financial, environmental, etc.).
• Knowledge and experience with Power BI (development, DAX language, Power Query and maintaining PowerBI workflows) or Spotfire (development, publishing, scripting).
• Translate information from technical to business and business to technical; understands both worlds.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively.
• Legally entitled to work in Canada.
• Data modeling, data transformations (data wrangling), visualization, and architecture.
• Bachelor degree in Engineering or Science (Data Science and/or Analytics).
• SQL – experience with different types of databases and writing queries.
• 5+ years experience in a similar role.
• Experience in creating data-rich dashboards and conveying meaningful insights into the data.
• Creating relationships between data and developing tabular and other multidimensional data models.
