Trainee - Construction Supervisor / Project Coordinator


The Construction Supervisor / Project Coordinator has gained valuable exposure to construction projects by working in the field-based role and undergone relevant training to understand basic or advanced construction methods, sequences, and processes.They understand the difference between a contractor’s supervisor and owner’s representative and are looking to develop their skills and advance their career in construction and project management.This is a junior role open only to individuals who do not require sponsorship to work in Canada.


Experience & Education

Detail oriented tradespersons with a strong understanding of project management processes, the ability to work under pressure and a commitment to exceed expectations may apply.Engineering technologists and engineers-in-training may also be considered.


Individual Assets

  • Strong communication, verbal, written and presentation skills.
  • 3+ years’ supervisory experience.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.
  • Exceptional problem-solving and collaboration skills.
  • Prior experience working as a construction supervisor / project coordinator.
  • Aspirations to work towards CAPM or PMP designation.
  • Gold Seal accreditation.
  • Affinity for learning and continuous improvement.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minimum typing speed of 30 words per minute.
  • Safety-based occupational training.
  • Leadership or supervisory training.
  • Industrial construction experience.


Role & Responsibilities

Working with the site’s project team, the successful candidate will be responsible for assisting with the successful planning, executing and evaluating multiple projects concurrently.The successful applicant will be provided mentoring and guidance with a focus on the development of construction and project management skills.Duties shall include at least the following:

  • Liaise with contractor, engineering and project teams to prioritize and expedite any design changes.
  • Verify installations meet project technical requirements, such as applicable codes, drawings, standards, specifications, etc.
  • Assist with the development, maintenance and monitoring of work forecasts, schedules and budgets.
  • Prepare the project punch list and follow up on completed deficiencies and outstanding work.
  • Undertake project tasks as necessary.
  • Coordinate, support, organize, and assist with the management of competing project activities and priorities across multiple projects, contractors, and the owner’s operations and maintenance groups.
  • Review, respond and file contractor document submissions such as drawings, RFI, etc.
  • Inspect active work sites and ongoing projects, monitoring safety, quality and productivity.
  • Promote opportunities for improvement in all areas of project execution.
  • Facilitate the flow of information between project team, owner, engineer and contractor.
  • Assist with constructability, safe work and efficiency planning.
  • Verify contractor resources, time submissions and project progress.
  • Develop reports and maintain records of construction activities, issues, changes, variances, etc.
  • Organize, attend and participate in stakeholder, kickoff, and progress meetings.

This is a field-based site position, therefore travel, working in remote locations, and on a rotational basis may be required.
