We are seeking an experienced and motivated Solar Designer / PV Electrical Engineer, to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing medium and large-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) systems ranging from 2 MWac to 50 MWac for commercial and industrial clients.


Responsibilities:


  • Work closely with other engineers and project managers as required.
  • Assisting our Project Development team in the interpretation of technical requirements on interconnection applications.
  • Perform electrical system studies and calculations (load, voltage drop, short circuit, load flow, arc flash, grounding studies, etc.).
  • Design and analyze photovoltaic systems, including the selection of components and system sizing for 2 MW to 50 MW systems.
  • Consult with utilities and manufacturers to understand and capture project design requirements specific to geographical area and associated utility interconnection requirements in the USA and in Europe. Experience in the USA market is an asset.
  • Support designing the DC/AC solar PV plant systems and LV & MV power distribution systems. Experience with associated substation design, Protection and Control systems (P&C relay design), fire alarm and communications systems are an asset.
  • Prepare and draft planning drawings based on planning requirements and standards.
  • Prepare and draft Single-line Diagrams, PV system layouts for permitting purposes.
  • Follow good engineering standards and practices on small to large-scale ground mount solar PV projects in various North American jurisdictions to ensure that engineering deliverables comply with applicable codes and regulations.
  • Maintain records of design notes, calculations, simulations, drawings, and other design records in appropriate project repository.


Requirements:

•Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Renewable Energy with the focus on solar PV systems.

•At least 3 years experience working with AutoCAD,

•1+ years of experience in the design and implementation of Solar PV systems

•Knowledge and experience with ground mount solar PV systems.

•Strong understanding of electrical design and codes, including NEC and UL 1703.

•Knowledge of solar PV system components, including inverters, panels, electrical equipment and racking systems.

•Experience working with PVsyst. Experience with Helioscope is an asset.

•Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills.

•Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

•Experience with preparing and executing utility interconnection plans would be an asset.

•Excellent interpersonal skills and can work effectively with senior management, clients, project team, and contractors.

•Effective oral and written communication skills.

•English – intermediate level or higher.

•Results oriented and be flexible to work well under tight schedules in a fast-paced team environment.
