As ATB's next Senior Underwriter, Growth & Advisory, your role includes providing agriculture credit expertise in support of ATB's Agriculture Strategy. You will work with a team of agriculture focused Underwriters to support our agriculture Relationship Managers (RM) with ATB's higher value Agri-Business & Agri-Food clientele. You will report to the Agriculture Central Underwriting Director.


As a Senior Agriculture Underwriter, you will be considered an expert agricultural lender. You possess an in-depth understanding of agriculture credit solutions & structuring complex credits. While this is not a customer facing role, you will occasionally meet virtually with clients or other external partners and join the RMs on site visits throughout Alberta.


Your day to day work would involve credit risk analysis and preparing formal credit presentations along with meeting with your RM partners to determine optimum credit solutions. There will also be opportunity to showcase your leadership and presentation skills through various project work.


Responsibilities


  • Maintain formal networks with partner roles in credit and portfolio management teams
  • Partner in first line of defense for risk management and make independent recommendations in conjunction with Senior Relationship Managers & Business Development Managers
  • Focus on onboarding new clients and risk exposure to ATB as a primary driver in credit structuring decisions
  • Ensure overall loan quality and supporting documentation is within the acceptable ATB measures and identifies all cross-selling opportunities while maintaining adherence to established service level agreements
  • Work at the ground level on new credit requests as an equal participant with Sales including on structuring decisions and a partner in helping grow the book
  • Make sound credit decisions for clients with risk exposures typically exceeding 15 million in lending commitments


Requirements


  • Experience with standard and non-standard margining protocol
  • Ability to mentor peers to help the agriculture underwriting team upskill
  • Ability to translate multiple Application For Credit formats including those outside standard Business Banking
  • Regarded as an informal leader who shares ideas and knowledge with the general agriculture team
  • Comfortable working independently and regarded by peers as an expert agriculture lender
  • Experience with Early Warnings Signal's and Covenants including the ability to communicate defined meaning behind each to our partners so that they are easily measurable and understood
  • Proven experience of onboarding large, complex clients over 5 million, including positioning new or unfamiliar industries to ATB as part of growth strategy
  • Considered a leading expert in analyzing cash flow and testing assumptions in projections
  • An in-depth understanding of security - this role is jointly responsible for the accuracy of ATB security documents
  • Ability to travel for site visits with high value clients in Alberta


Accreditation


  • Business or accounting degree or equivalent
  • Chartered Financial Analyst accreditation or graduate level education is an asset but not required
