The Opportunity:


Our client’s division specializing in underground hard rock mining is currently in search for a Mechanical Designer in Sudbury, ON. Reporting to the Mechanical Design Supervisor, this role presents a unique opportunity to lead the development of groundbreaking products that address real challenges faced by their customers.

What You'll Be Doing:


  • Offering technical assistance to field personnel, ensuring successful implementation.
  • Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to refine concepts and designs.
  • Validating and fine-tuning system prototypes to meet performance benchmarks.
  • Carefully selecting components to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Providing essential support to manufacturing activities and guiding the production process.
  • Facilitating the transition from design to production by preparing meticulous design releases.
  • Defining problems and translating them into innovative conceptual solutions.
  • Engaging directly with customers to comprehend their challenges and needs.
  • Creating detailed designs and 3D models using SolidWorks for visualization.


What You'll Need To Be Successful:


  • A solid grasp of manufacturing processes, particularly welding and machining.
  • A track record of 5 or more years in designing underground hard rock equipment.
  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications and familiarity with ERP systems.
  • Familiarity with Bill of Materials (BOM), MRP systems, Engineering Change Notices (ECN), and Non-Conformance Reports (NCR).
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD design, with a preference for SolidWorks expertise.
  • Knowledgeable in fluid mechanics and electrical systems, contributing to a holistic skill set.
  • A proactive and self-motivated approach, with the ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively.
  • Proficiency in project management principles and utilization of relevant software.
  • Experience in designing weldments and conducting stress analysis.
  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized university.
