The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry provides outstanding education within a research-intensive, distributed learning environment where tomorrow’s physicians, dentists and health researchers and other scholars learn to be socially responsible leaders in the advancement of human health. The Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry is the largest Faculty on the Western University campus and employs over 2,000 part-time and full-time faculty and over 1,500 staff.


Responsibilities

The Project Specialist (Learning and Innovations) will be a key contributor to operational improvements through process reviews, project management, research administration, and oversight of distributed medical curriculum evaluation activities for Distributed Medical Education. The role will coordinate the successful implementation of priority projects, on time and within budgetary constraints, and will act as a point of contact for internal and external inquiries related to each of the projects. The Project Specialist (Learning and Innovations) will support the development of strategic initiatives within the Office of Distributed Education, collaborating with multiple stakeholders including Schulich faculty, staff, trainees, students and community and hospital partners. The role also analyzes and reports on relevant program and project metrics, presents on relevant research and educational initiatives to multi-stakeholder groups, monitors program data and other sources, to identify trends, challenges and opportunities, and prepares documents and related recommendations.


Qualifications

Education:

- Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline

- Project Management Professional certification completed or in progress preferred


Experience:

- 3 years of experience in project management and facilitation in an academic or hospital (cross-sectoral) environment

- Experience assisting with the preparation of budgets and monitoring accounts preferred


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Demonstrated ability to manage cross-sectoral projects, involving a variety of stakeholders, from conception to completion within tightly prescribed timelines

- Demonstrated knowledge of best practices in evaluation and research methodologies

- Skilled in mixed-method approaches using qualitative and quantitative data

- Knowledge with evaluation practices used across Canadian Medical schools

- Working knowledge of statistical packages such as SPSS and SAS, and report writing

- Ability to ensure expenditures and resources are within allotments, and to make appropriate modifications when required

- Familiarity with techniques for updating, managing and extracting data from a database

- Ability to collaborate across internal and external boundaries to meet common objectives, improve outcomes and support work beyond one's own unit

- Communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience

- Ability to ensure confidentiality and privacy is maintained through the appropriate retention and destruction of information

- Attention to detail and proofreading abilities with an excellent command of the English language

- A well-defined sense of diplomacy, including solid negotiation and conflict resolution skills

- Ability to work within a flexible schedule to accommodate the University’s events and activities

- Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Powerpoint, Word, and Excel)

- Knowledge of regulations and guidelines governing research in an academic environment and of best practices for reviewing and writing grant proposals is an asset

- Demonstrated knowledge of Distributed Medical Education Programs preferred
