Job Description
The Project Manager is responsible and accountable for the management of single and multi-disciplined projects and to successfully complete all projects on time and on budget. The project management section delivers turn-key capital and maintenance projects for NTPC’s power generation facilities from the conceptual stage to the final completion and hand-over stage. Typical projects focus on diesel, natural gas and hydroelectric generation stations and the supporting infrastructure. Other projects may include power generation using wind turbines, office buildings, warehouses, equipment/vehicle maintenance garages and other projects as the need arises.


  • Makes appearances or presentations before government representatives, community leaders and industry representative to provide progress updates on ongoing projects, related project issues, actions or initiatives.
  • Certified Project Manager Professional (PMP) designation with the Project Management Institute (PMI) is considered an asset.
  • Must undergo a successful criminal background check.
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office suite of programs, such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Project IV, etc
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, planning and organizational skills.
  • Builds, develops and grows any business relationships vital to the success of each project.
  • Manages, via project staff, the preparation of tender documents and RFPs, as per corporate policies & procedures, complete with bill of quantities, cost estimates, technical specifications, supplementary conditions, drawings, RFPs, contracts, etc. applicable to the project.
  • Prepares, for each project, a detailed project plan which contains, but is not limited to, problem and proposed solution statements, project scope, tasks sheets c/w task budget for each project team member, execution, management and contract and procurement plan, project organizational chart, overall project budget and project schedule, construction & commissioning schedule and a schedule for each engineering discipline.
  • Manages and directs single and multi-discipline project technical and non-technical staff in delivering corporate turn-key capital and maintenance projects from beginning to end. Capital projects are mostly multi-disciplined and range in size. Small projects related to rehabilitation/upgrade can be single disciplined or multi-disciplined and range in size.
  • Obtains and analyzes, on a monthly basis, computerized project cost reports to determine that costs-to-date do not exceed individual line items within the approved project budget.
  • Strong negotiation, analytical skills and demonstrated ability to exercise good judgment, be practical and capable to apply common sense and be accountable for individual work.
  • Valid Class 5 Drivers License or equivalent required.
  • Sets and continually manages project expectations, such as budget, schedule, scope, design changes, permit status, etc., with all stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated skill in organizing, directing and overseeing the work of project staff.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering and eligible for membership in NAPEG with at least five (5) years of engineering and/or project management experience, preferably related to thermal and hydroelectric power generation, OR
  • Engineering Technologist with Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) designation and at least seven (7) years of engineering and/or project management experience, preferably related to thermal and hydroelectric power generation, OR
  • At least 9 years of project management experience, preferably related to thermal and hydroelectric power generation required.
  • Extensive experience and strong technical skills and understanding of thermal and hydroelectric generation procedures, permitting, engineering design, construction and commissioning.
  • Assigns and monitors work of project technical and non-technical staff and ensures that quality and accurate engineering, construction and commissioning work is performed throughout the life cycle of each project.


This is a unionized position. The salary for the position ranges from $59.74/hr to $72.60/hr plus a location allowance of approximately $3,823 per annum.
