Job Description

The Opportunity:


We are currently seeking a Project Geologist to join our Brownfields Exploration team in Voisey’s Bay, NL. This is a 12-month contract.

This position is based at the Voisey’s Bay mine site in Labrador, a fly-in fly-out operation, on a two week on, two week off rotation, consisting of 12-hour shifts during the two weeks on.

Reporting to the Exploration Manager, Voisey’s Bay, but under the supervision of the onsite Senior Geologist, the Project Geologist will involve leading day-to-day project activities, core logging and project level planning. The successful candidates will be a dependable and self-motivated individual who works well in a team environment to provide geological services including manual, technical, and/or administrative duties. Responsibilities will include the collection of or processing of geological information through rock samples, drill cores, borehole or surface instrumentation, and applying various sampling techniques. The job will also include the creation, manipulation or processing of digital or paper data/information.


Accountabilities:


· Conduct geological and geotechnical core logging following established procedures which are consistent and meets the quality assurance and quality control standards.

· Prepare technical reports and summary presentations.

· Manage the day-to-day activities of drilling contractors providing them with technical feedback and assistance.

· Work with subject matter experts to design, collect, and interpret geotechnical, geophysical, and metallurgical data.

· Conduct detailed and regional geological field mapping.

· Computer data entry, and processing and review of technical and geological data to ensure completeness and accuracy.

· Ensure compliance and conformance of our exploration activities through site visits and inspections.

· Operate and assist in the basic maintenance of equipment (vehicles, core saw, rock saw, UTV, computers, computer peripherals, printers, etc.)

· Participate in all pre-operating inspections, workplace inspections, contractor engagement meeting, toolbox meetings and safety meetings.

· Maintain a clean work environment.

· Follow Safety policies, procedures, best practices, and government regulations at all times.


Training – Education - Skills:


· University Degree in Earth Sciences or related field mandatory.

· Self-motivated, Safety-conscious, Flexible, Dependable and pays strict attention to detail.

· Advanced computer skills (experience with MS office suite is mandatory, proficiency with

ArcGIS and 3D software such as Datamine, GoCAD, Leapfrog is preferred).

· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License mandatory.


Working Conditions:


· This position includes regular periods during which there is continuous physical activity (e.g. walking, standing, lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward (50lbs)

· Frequent exposures to factors such as temperature variations, moving machinery, noise, humidity.

· Frequent need to give concentrated attention, with one or two senses at a time.

· Tasks can be very repetitive and work environment unchanging.

· There may be noticeable pressure from deadlines, production requirements, accuracy or similar demands.

· Completion of the following preferred: First Aid/CPR/AED, WHMIS
