Job Title : The Messaging SRE


Location: Montr al ( Office attendance from day one - Hybrid mode 3x per week)


Years of experience : 3 to 5 years ( level 2)


The messaging SRE position is part of EC Core Infrastructure Services organization. The squad manages and supports a variety of messaging solutions including IBM MQ and Confluent Kafka. This position is for a SRE role within existing global Messaging squad for providing infrastructure support for messaging products MQ and Kafka and enable applications teams to use these products effectively.


The successful candidate will be involved in day-to-day management of plant, troubleshooting with application users, handling of infrastructure changes, incident and problem management and long term automation, performance tuning of plant.


Main Job Responsibilities Include


  • Production Management for Kafka on Kubernetes and MQ plants
  • Creating and maintaining best practices / policies and ensuring that they are followed.
  • Built automation to address TOIL, replace manual tasks with tools.
  • Change, Incident and Problem management
  • Deep-diving into complex troubleshoots, implementing changes, and serving as an escalation point for the Level 2 teams.
  • Work with External vendors on product issues and roadmap items.
  • Built tools to enable self-service operations by application users and L1/2 staff to reduce the overhead involved in day to day operations.
  • Participate in the weekly review meetings and actively engage with various engineering teams to review the infrastructure


Skills Required


  • Experience with IBM MQ 9.x
  • Willingness to take ownership and accountability to execute and deliver on goals; strong commitment to high quality standards.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong collaboration and team spirit, customer focused
  • Experience with Python or Ansible
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and high pressure situations for outage handling, management or resolution
  • Good knowledge of Linux, Kubernetes


Nice To Have


  • Strong understanding of ITIL
  • Good Knowledge of JVM
  • Experience with Kafka
  • Understanding of data services with past experiences in one or more supported technologies.
