About The Opportunity
The Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) Technician works under the direction of the Medical Device Reprocessing Manager in collaboration with all internal and external users of the MDR Service to effectively provide safe, clean, and sterile equipment, supplies, and instruments according to prescribed approved procedures and techniques. The Medical Device Reprocessing staff will be responsible to function in all areas of reprocessing.
The MDR Technician ensures that the principles and practices that guide our work such as the mission, vision, values, expected behaviors, the leadership philosophy, organizational health, population health, ethics, safety, quality, partnerships and interprofessional collaboration are integrated within the services they provide and through the messages they deliver.
The base site for this position is Soldier's Memorial Hospital in Middleton; however, the successful candidate may be required to work from Valley Regional Hospital, as operationally required.
About You
We would love to hear from you if you have the following:
  • Manual and finger dexterity along with good visual and hearing perception in order to maintain safety and efficiency of operations
  • Grade 12 plus graduate of recognized Medical Device Reprocessing Technicians’ course
  • Medical Terminology an asset
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
  • Demonstrates understanding of the role of Medical Device Reprocessing in the delivery of patient care and understanding of how errors may affect medical treatment and cause financial loss
  • Knowledge of or previous experience in nursing, infection control or microbiology
  • Proven planning, organization and time management skills
  • Sound judgment and decision making skills
  • Access to a reliable vehicle as travel may be required
  • Knowledge of sterile supply processing equipment, e.g. Steam Sterilizer, Cart wash, Amps Washer/Sterilizer, Ultrasonic, etc
  • Demonstrates accountability
  • Commitment to promoting a culture that supports safety, ethical practices and organizational health
  • Minimum 9 months recent related experience an asset
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
  • Demonstrates leadership abilities
Where there are no applicants who have completed the Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program, consideration may be given to applicants who are currently enrolled in an approved Medical Device Reprocessing Technician Program or who commit to completing this program at their own expense within the first 12 months of employment (must submit proof of enrollment upon start).
MDR Techs may also be provided with training for reprocessing in the Endoscopy department and expected to provide coverage when necessary.

Hours
  • 7.5 hour shifts including evening, weekend and holidays
  • Dates are approximate and subject to change
  • Long Assignment, Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly
  • Beginning July 3, 2023 with a duration of December 31, 2024
  • On-call for the reprocessing of Endoscopes
  • Travel may be required

Medical Device Reprocessing Technician
$21.68 - $24.56 hourly
Medical Device Reprocessing Technician In Training
$20.03 hourly
