Job Description
Trans Mountain operates Canada’s only pipeline system transporting oil products to the West Coast. We deliver approximately 300,000 barrels of petroleum products each day through 1,150 kilometres of pipeline in Alberta and British Columbia, and 111 kilometres of pipeline in Washington state.

The Manager, Security reports to the Director, Emergency Management and is responsible for all aspects of physical security including the development, implementation, maintenance and continual improvement of physical security program at Trans Mountain. The Manager, Security provides corporate security expertise to the organization to ensure physical security risks are understood and mitigated, as appropriate. The Manager, Security shall remain up to date on new threats and advise senior management of emerging trends to ensure the security program is aligned with other programs to ensure the protection of people and our assets.


Key Responsibilities


  • Collaborate and ensure the successful integration of the Trans Mountain Expansion Project and existing assets.
  • Provide guidance on current and potential future security risks at all levels of the organization and manage the Security Risk Management process.
  • Ensure collaboration with Emergency Management and Business Continuity to ensure the Security Program is implemented adequately safeguard the organization against advanced threats.
  • Support and collaborate with internal IT cyber security to advance the interface between technology and physical security assets.
  • Manage the security team which includes security advisors, a coordinator, and contractors; develop and manage the security budget and forecasts.
  • Manage the development, implementation, maintenance, and continual improvement of security policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines, ensuring compliance with federal and provincial laws and regulations, and management system requirements.


Qualification And Professional Experience


  • Experience in conflict resolution to defuse potentially volatile situations (protests, workplace terminations, criminal activity, etc.)
  • Organizational Leadership skills including: ability to manage by objective, effective listening skills, decision-making, facilitation, influencing, planning, conflict resolution, and career management.
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Minimum of 15 years in a corporate security profession, preferably in the energy industry or other industrial industries with at least 5 years in a management position.
  • Experience with integrated Management Systems including project management skills (organization and resource application, prioritization, scheduling, and budget management).
  • Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with multiple stakeholder groups, including law enforcement, local communities, and industry associations is critical.
  • Knowledge of Transport Canada for federally regulated marine facilities would be an asset.
  • Valid Drivers License is required.
  • Knowledge of TSA pipeline security guidelines for TSA regulated pipeline companies would be an asset.
  • Post Secondary Diploma or Degree in a related field (Criminology, Law, Political Science, Business/Management)
  • Marine Facility Security Officer (MFSO)
  • Incident Command System 300
  • ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP)
  • Experience with projects involving multi-disciplinary teams operating in a fast-paced, driven environment.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Expert knowledge with Canadian Energy Regulator and requirements for federally regulated pipeline companies would be an asset.
  • A demonstrated ability to resolve physical and facility security issues within a corporate environment is essential.

Trans Mountain also operates through 15 First Nation Reserves located within the region spanning the BC interior through Fraser Valley.
