Job Description
Attention Folder/Bindery/Inserting/Stitching or other Print Production Machine Operators!!!
Our digital print client in the Scarborough area is seeking a Digital Print Finishing Machinery Operator to add to their growing team on a straight day/mid shift (10am-6:30pm)!
They are seeking candidates with two or more years of experience operating folding/binding machinery within a printing facility.
This is a PERMANENT, direct hire role, and an opportunity to join a company that is in the middle of an impressive growth period. This means LOTS of opportunity for advancement and obtaining new skills on the job, while working under industry-leading professionals!
This is a FULL TIME position with negotiable pay based on experience (no reasonable rate is off the table as long as the value in the candidate is evident), and has the opportunity for an immediate start date.
Candidates MUST be located centrally in the Toronto area, as they will be training in the company's Scarborough facility for the remainder of 2023 and then will move to the Brampton location as of the beginning of 2024.

Shift: 10:00AM - 6:00PM Monday to Friday (can vary slightly depending on business needs)
Training Location (for the remainder of 2023): Scarborough facility (Birchmount Rd. & Ellesmere Rd.)
Permanent Working Location (as of January 2024): Brampton facility (Goreway Dr. & Steeles Ave E)
**Candidates MUST be willing to train in Scarborough and will transfer to Brampton location after training starting at the beginning of 2024**
**Candidates MUST pass a criminal background check**

Responsibilities
  • Notify supervisor when special maintenance or service call repairs are required
  • Communicate with supervisor any issues with the job or helpers
  • Monitor inventory of job components and request or retrieve more as required
  • Provide active feedback for improving processes and department development
  • Basic troubleshooting
  • Consistently check quality before, during and after each job. For Inserter, making sure envelopes are sealed, name and address appears in window, Canadian & US mail are kept separate
  • Set up, load and operate Inserting Machines, Cutter, Perfect Binding & Stitching Machines, and Printing Equipment, based on specific Job Docket/Work Order/Operating Screen instructions
  • Responsible for overall quality and integrity of the end product
  • Retrieve all required job components from shipping department or print room
  • Responsible for the crew on the machine (feeders, catchers, sorters)
  • Print camera reports and back up files
  • Complete “Job Sign-Off” form prior to beginning work, to confirm complete understanding of the job specifications
  • Basic understanding of job components (stocks, envelopes, finishes, etc.)
  • Sign in and log all job tasks into computer job costing system
  • Must have knowledge of the current workflow structure, job prioritization and be able to work alone or with minimal supervision
  • Responsible for meeting all deadlines set out to complete the daily workflow
  • General housekeeping in the work area for safety, cleanliness and organization
  • Maintain and clean equipment as required to ensure smooth operating
Qualifications
  • Repetitive motion and lifting required
  • Adhere to all Health & Safety guidelines, policies and procedures
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent hands on experience required
  • Troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance
  • 8 ½” x 11” sheets fold to ½ fold or letter fold
  • Understand machine parts and controls
  • Adhere to all department policies, procedures and controls
  • Understand folding principles for the following:
  • Use perforating & scoring knives
  • Ability to run and keep personalized sheets in sequence for other/following finishing stages
  • Set rollers, feeders and blowers
  • 8 ½” x 14” sheets fold to 3 panel fold
  • Must be able to prioritize work efficiently and multi task
  • 11” x 17” sheets fold to # 10 size or 5 ½” x 8 ½”
  • Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to stay focused and work accurately under pressure in a fast paced, deadline-sensitive environment
  • Ability to roll fold and tri-fold brochures
  • Understand dockets and follow run sheets
  • Must be able to think ahead, trouble shoot, and follow a job through to successful completion
  • Be flexible with regards to extra shifts and possible short term changes to accommodate client demands and staff vacations and absences
