Machine Learning Software Engineer

Impact AI was founded in 2021 with the vision to transform and modernize the use of data in industrial environments. We are seeking a Machine Learning Software Engineer with a focus on computer vision applications to join our team developing software products. Our products include systems to improve efficiency in airfield operations, and applications to improve productivity and product quality in advanced automated welding environments.

As part of a fast-growing startup team, you will be responsible for contributing to product development from conception to completion. This includes project management, technical architecting, machine learning model development, technical client interactions, and customer-facing demonstration developments.

This position is remote, where the team interacts virtually, with occasional travel to conferences and customer facilities throughout North America.

Your Responsibilities:

• Discuss with stakeholders to define problems and communicate high-level technical solutions
• Continuous learning regarding the latest developments in data science techniques
• Technical writing including white papers, manuscripts, and intellectual property
• Project planning, tracking, and reporting using JIRA software and Scrum
• Develop software demonstrations for sales generation, potentially including prototype software interfaces
• Build, train, and deploy state of the art machine learning models
• Generation of video and/or image datasets using both synthetic techniques and live data-collection

Required Skills & Experience:

Education:

• Undergraduate or Graduate degree in computer science or engineering

Experience:

• Minimum of 1 year machine learning experience, with at least 6 months spent on computer vision or image-based applications
• Minimum of 2 years software development experience
• Preference will be given to candidates with experience developing solution from conception to completion

Skills:

• Proficient understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning theory
• Proficiency in Python and its machine learning libraries, such as TensorFlow and PyTorch
• Proficient understanding of software engineering practices and fundamentals (data structures, algorithms, software architecture and testing, object-oriented programming)
• Expertise in machine learning with a significant focus on computer vision and/or image analysis
• Experience translating high-level problem description into appropriate technical solutions
• Experience with data collection, cleaning, and preprocessing for image and/or video data
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently as well as in a team

Bonus Points For:

• Experience working with C++ interface for ML and computer vision tools (e.g. TensorFlow, OpenCV)
• Exposure to HPC workflows, compute clusters and cloud computing services (e.g. SharcNet, AWS, Azure)
• Experience developing desktop or web applications as needed for sales demonstrations
• Exposure to database software (e.g. SQL)
• Experience deploying and/or maintaining machine learning models in an industrial environment
• Experience working with point-cloud data (e.g. LiDAR)

We are looking for a full-time, long-term employee and we’ll hire as soon as we meet the right person. Target annual salary in this position is $91,000 to $102,000 depending on experience.
