Job Description
The Opportunity:


As a Pipeline Leak Detection Technologist, you will work closely with Field Operations, Facilities Engineering, Production Engineering and Asset Integrity groups to develop, implement, and continuously improve the company’s pipeline leak detection strategy. You will be responsible for developing a Pipeline Leak Detection Management System that describes the company’s leak detection strategy, and the processes that support the strategy.


Key Accountabilities:
  • Inventory
  • The successful candidate will act as a district subject matter expert on the topic of pipeline leak detection by;
  • Provide education and training for all stakeholders
  • Training & competency
  • Calibration, maintenance, function testing, alarms, control systems
  • Auditing
  • Ensure that the company’s leak detection program covers key elements such as;
  • Continuous improvement
  • Equipment standardization/guidance
  • Develop a high level understanding what types of leak detection systems are currently in place, what the strengths and limitations are related to each type of system, and to drive overall improvement and compliance with the company’s leak detection strategy
  • Metrics/KPI’s
  • Support the design, commissioning and maintenance of all leak detection systems for the district


Other Details:


  • Shift Schedule: 5x2 - Monday to Friday, 8 hours per day
  • Eligible for relocation pursuant to Canadian Natural’s Relocation Regular Policy
  • This is a safety sensitive position

Skills & Qualifications:


  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in pipeline operations, instrumentation, knowledge of leak detection and familiarity with codes and standards
  • Proficiency in spreadsheets and engineering software applications
  • Meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical aptitude, resourcefulness and self-motivated
  • Experience developing and implementing corporate level management systems would be an asset
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage several projects concurrently
  • Proven team player with the ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships, while demonstrating a high level of cooperation and mutual respect
