Job Description

Myseum of Toronto is looking for a part-time gallery assistant. The gallery assistant would be responsible for overseeing Myseum’s gallery space every other Saturday beginning August 26, 2023 until August 26, 2024, with the possibility of extending. Each shift will be from 11:30AM to 6:30PM with a lunch break.


You will report directly to Assistant Curator and/or Associate Manager, Operations and Development. Your duties include the following:


  1. Opening and Closing Myseum Space: Gallery attendant is responsible for opening and closing the Myseum space on time. Duties include: Setting up tech equipment (iPads, projectors, headsets, etc), replenishing exhibition supplies, displaying signage, tidying up the space at the end of each shift, etc.
  2. Visitor Assistance: Gallery attendant assists visitors with questions or concerns. This includes providing directions, answering questions about the exhibition and programming, and promoting the Myseum brand.
  3. Be an ambassador: Gallery attendant will promote Myseum to visitors and tell them more about upcoming programming and city wide events. When possible, gallery attendants will ask attendees to sign up for our newsletter and/or make a donation.
  4. Gallery Monitoring: Gallery attendant is responsible for monitoring the galleries to ensure that the displayed artifacts/installations are not damaged, stolen, or vandalized. This includes walking through the galleries, checking for any potential hazards, and reporting any suspicious activity to the appropriate authorities.
  5. Reporting/Visitor Evaluation: Gallery attendant is responsible for writing a report at the end of each shift to support research and evaluation in tracking visitor feedback and metrics.
  6. Other Duties: Gallery attendants may be asked to perform other duties as assigned, such as assisting with special events, or helping with administrative tasks.
