Job Description
NorZinc Ltd, owner of the Prairie Creek Mine situated near Nahanni Butte in the Northwest Territories, has a seasonal employment opportunity for an experienced Environment Specialist. Reporting to the Environment Superintendent this position will be responsible for day-to-day environmental compliance activities for licences, permits and regulations at the Prairie Creel Mine and will work effectively and safely in a team-based organization.
Responsibilities include:
  • Responsible for operation and maintenance of water treatment system;
  • Conduct site audits, inspections, and spills reporting;
  • Carry out the environmental monitoring programs necessary for compliance with environmental permits and regulations;
  • Document and maintain all sampling data, laboratory analyses and correspondence;
  • Interact with other operating departments.
  • Prepare regulatory reports;
  • Serve as a point of contact with regulatory agencies and inspectors;
Qualifications & Experience:
  • Experience working with regulators, government agencies, and Indigenous Governments in the Northwest Territories will be considered an asset;
  • A technical Diploma or University degree in a related technical/scientific discipline;
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in environmental monitoring, sampling, and equipment operation;
  • Strong report writing, use of computer software, and Microsoft Office skills;
The successful candidate will be required to have excellent collaboration skills; an ability to interact respectfully with people from internal departments and external organizations; in-depth knowledge of applicable mining authorizations, mining operations, the regulatory processes relevant to Northern mining projects; and general understanding of environmental issues for Northern mining projects. Travel to the mine site will be required.

Following Public Health requirements in the NWT, adherence to COVID protocols is a condition of employment. This is a seasonal, fly in/fly out camp position that will typically involve a two week in, two week out rotation until November 2023.
