Job Description
Chevron Canada Resources is actively seeking a Data Scientist to join the Canadian Business Unit (CBU). This position is based in Calgary, Alberta and will report to the CBU IT Advisor in Chevron Canada’s Information Technology Division.


The Data Scientist will be responsible for providing Data Science and Machine Learning Engineering expertise and solution delivery. The function of this role is to partner with the business to identify opportunities to apply data science approaches and create data science products that deliver business value. The successful candidate that fills this position will have the skills to identify, prototype, and build data science products to optimize field developments.


Key job responsibilities for this position may include but are not limited to:


  • Provide technical mentoring in modeling and analytics technologies, the specifics of the modeling process, and general consulting skills.
  • Identify and frame opportunities to apply advanced analytics, modeling, and related technologies to data in order to help Chevron businesses gain insight and improve decision making, workflow, and automation. Understand value of proposed opportunity.
  • Work with team lead on engaging business regularly to share team’s accomplishments and to identify additional opportunities.
  • Clean data, develop models, and test models.
  • Identify data necessary and appropriate technology to solve business challenges identified.
  • Apply machine learning in scientific and economic domains, applied to subsurface characterization and understanding.
  • Establish the life cycle management process for models.


Technical Competencies –


  • Experience with data visualization tools.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Azure and tools in its ecosystem; proficiency in Python or R for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Experience in advanced analytics / data science technologies (e.g., machine learning, operations research, statistics, data mining)
  • Experience solving problems with spatial autocorrelation and quantifying uncertainty using probabilistic algorithms is an asset.

Qualifications


  • Ability to effectively organize and execute tasks for multiple stakeholders, with at times overlapping and conflicting timelines and priorities.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing work priorities and deliver high quality, accurate work with multiple deadlines.
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science or a related field.
  • Ability to work productively in a team environment, both supporting other team members and contributing to the effectiveness and reliability of the team.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, is important. This includes actively listening and asking questions to understand the views and concerns of others.
  • Ability to engage and establish collaborative relationships both inside and outside immediate workgroup at various organizational levels, across functional and geographic boundaries to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Experience in the oil and gas or energy industry is highly desirable.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
