Job Description

Kardel is currently seeking a Behavioural Consultant to join the Community Response Team (CRT) to address referrals from Victoria area service agencies and families in relation to behavioural support and safety plans. This opportunity allows you to be part of a multi disciplinary team which includes two full time behaviour consultants, two part-time counselors and one part-time psychiatrist to serve eligible adults in the CLBC community. Community Response Team

The CRT provides community-based behaviour support within a multi-disciplinary team including, counselling, psychiatric assessment, and behaviour consultation for adults with developmental disabilities to support their mental health and improve quality of life. We serve Greater Victoria and the geographical area south of the Malahat. The CRT works with Individuals, their families, support workers, community-based teams, and medical professionals, to provide person-centred and solution-focused support. The CRT is funded through Community Living British Columbia (CLBC); services are voluntary and there are no extra fees for the persons served.


Job Summary:

The Consultant develops and implements behavioural intervention strategies (based on Applied Behaviour Analysis) for persons with Developmental Disabilities with challenging behavior. Intervention strategies may include Safety Plans where unsafe behavior has the potential to harm the individual or others. These interventions are designed to facilitate quality of life objectives, are functionally based, and integrated with person-centred planning.


Key Duties and Responsibilities:

· Conducts functional behavioural assessments in natural settings


· Works with families and support staff in conducting assessments and in developing appropriate individual goals and intervention strategies.


· Prepares individualized, written documents developed to address challenging behavior, which outlines specific behaviour support interventions, implementation requirements, time frames, and review dates.


· Introduces data collection mechanisms to evaluate behavioural support interventions


· Provides families and support staff with basic instruction regarding the implementation of behaviour support plans.


· Develops Behavioural Safety Plans in addition to Behavioural Support Plans where identified behavior poses risk to the individual or others. Develops processes for managing emergency situations including detailing permitted and restricted practices


· Provides training to key workers, caregivers and other such personnel in order to augment their skills in providing service to people with developmental disabilities.


· Adheres to CLBC “Behaviour Support & Safety Planning Policy and Guidelines”.


· Tracks work activities and provides monthly reports.


Qualifications:Master’s or Doctoral degree in a related discipline such as Clinical or Educational Psychology or Special Education, or is a Board Certified Behavioural Analyst with BCBA Certification


Full-time, Permanent 37.5 hours per week


Salary: From $41.78 per hour
