Job Description
Title: Attendant-Part Time


Reports to: Resident Program Coordinator


The Palace Retirement community is home to 36 residents who range in age, as well as their physical and cognitive capabilities. We, at The Palace, strive to provide dignity, safety and compassion to each resident while working in their home. We offer meal services, housekeeping and support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Working with The Palace, you will gain knowledge, experience and a sense of helping others. We offer competitive wages and ongoing training.


We are looking for a candidate who is comfortable working independently as well as part of a team. You must be available to work a variety of shifts – days, evenings, nights and every other weekend.


Position Summary:


Food preparation, serving meals, assist residents with medication administration, cleaning kitchen and dining areas, dishes, storage and service areas. Maintains high standard of cleanliness throughout the facility by cleaning and sanitizing rooms and furnishing in assigned work areas following established policies and procedures.


Sort, wash, dry and fold linen and personal clothing and deliver in accordance with established policies and procedures.


Major Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to established department policies, procedures and objectives regarding quality improvements, OH&S, WHMIS, environmental and infection control.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Spot cleaning walls, windows, doors
  • Clear dining room areas, trays, load and operate dishwasher, clean equipment as directed. Set up for meal services.
  • Assist in providing residents with medication and treatments as ordered by physician and delegated by nurse.
  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences. Observe time limits to meal servings.
  • Removing waste
  • Uses specified cleaning/disinfecting agents and follow specified procedures, work patterns and routines to perform tasks, such as:
  • Ensure privacy of residents during performance of duties.
  • Assisting with maintaining residents wellbeing by documenting any incidents such as falls or injuries and communicating with families as needed.
  • Daily cleaning and disinfecting washrooms; replenishing supplies
  • Function as a resident advocate.
  • Participate in proper food storage and labelling of dietary supplies
  • Promote and respect Residents Bill of Rights through all interactions with residents, family members, staff and all customers of the home.
  • Vacuuming, sweeping, dry/wet mopping, scrubbing, sanitizing/disinfecting floors
  • Be aware of and respond to the needs or the residents and their family members at all times.
  • Commitment to ongoing education to meet residents needs and meet legislative requirements
  • Observe operation of machines (washing machine, dryer, dishwasher etc.) Report malfunctions to supervisor; clean machines as required.
  • Wash, dry, fold linen and laundry and deliver to appropriate units


Working conditions:


Considerable standing and walking, squatting, reaching, lifting and moving equipment and supplies. Exposure to hazards from use of kitchen utensils and equipment. Regular use of sense of sight and smell during cooking prep time. Regular pressure of deadlines to cook and serve meals. Exposure to resident elements through regular contact. Stress in dealing with residents, family, staff and customer needs.


Qualifications:


Grade 12 Diploma


Demonstrated experience and interest in working with a population of older adults


Excellent interpersonal and communication skills


Demonstrated commitment to client centered care


Ability to work independently and as part of a team


Must have completed a Vulnerable Sector Record Check (within 6 months)


Current 2 step TB skin test (within 1 year)


Current Food Handlers course (of receipt of enrollment at the time of hire)


Covid vaccinations including booster shot
