This position is responsible for undertaking aircraft fire rescue operations and ensuring the safe evacuation of passengers and crew, initiating fire suppression activities, carrying out fire prevention activities, performing routine maintenance of firefighting equipment, and carrying out other duties related to fire, health and safety, and security programs at the Erik Nielson Whitehorse International Airport (ENWIA). Essential Qualifications (what we’re looking for in your resume):
Please submit your resume clearly demonstrating how you meet each of the following qualifications. Please note, selection for further consideration will be based solely on the information you provide in your resume.
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license
  • Incident Command System level I-100
  • Completion of Level 1 Structural Firefighter Certification (NFPA1001 or equivalent)
  • Valid First Responder Level First Aid Certificate
  • Experience in structural firefighting and operating rescue firefighting vehicles

  • Knowledge of structural firefighting and emergency medical practices

  • Ability to act responsibly and apply professional judgment
Conditions of Employment
Must possess and maintain a valid Yukon Class 3 driver’s licence with air endorsement.
Maintain a passport.
Must acquire a Transport Canada Transportation Security Clearance (within 8 months); Restricted Radio Operator’s License and Airside Vehicle Operator’s Permit (within 2 months)
This is a Designated Position under the Yukon Government Occupational Health Evaluation Guide and must Pass and maintain a Physical Abilities Test and an Occupational Health Evaluation.
Job Requirements
Shift work, including working weekends and statutory holidays, wearing a uniform provided by the department, completing an annual Physical Abilities Test, and maintaining fire certifications annually.
