Determining required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques

Welder Trade Certification and/or CWB certification is preferred

3+ years industrial experience, with flux core welding and overhead crane operation

Experience in structural steel fabrication is preferred

Experience in the structural fabrication environment is preferred

Team player with good interpersonal skills, work ethic, and a positive attitude.

Determines required equipment and welding method, applying knowledge of metallurgy, geometry, and welding techniques.

Ensure that goods and services are produced efficiently

Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.

Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.

Removes rough spots from work, using portable grinder, hand file, or scraper

Heats, forms, and dresses metal parts, using hand tools, torch, or arc welding equipment

Must have certification as a journeyman welder and must pass the CP Rail qualifying test;

Have a working knowledge of the welding equipment involved with the various welding procedures;

Have a thorough knowledge of metals, electrodes, welding gases and gas welding filler rods;

Have a working knowledge of the mathematical calculations pertaining to the welding trade

A safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience within the labour industry;

Ability to follow instructions, rules and regulations is essential written and verbal communications skills;

Good verbal and written communication skills

Grade 12 or GED – additional education past high school would be an asset

Manufacturing and forklift/overhead crane training or experience an asset

Perform general tasks as assigned by Supervisor

Handle materials – within the shop and outdoors as required

Assisting various machine operators in setup; moving materials in and out of the shop using overhead hoist and forklift
