Overview Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs) are responsible for providing medical care to animals in veterinary clinics, animal hospitals, and other animal care facilities. They work closely with veterinarians to provide medical care and treatments to animals, including administering medications, performing laboratory tests, and providing nursing care. Job Skills Required Registered Veterinary Technicians must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work well with animals. They must also have strong organizational and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. They must also have a strong knowledge of animal anatomy and physiology, as well as the ability to recognize and respond to signs of illness or injury. Job Qualifications Registered Veterinary Technicians must have a high school diploma or equivalent. They must also have completed a veterinary technician program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). In addition, they must be licensed in the state in which they work.
