Project Safety Officer Jobs in British Columbia

Project Management experience is a plus.

10+ years of experience in IS certification highly preferred.

Detailed knowledge of the technical vocabulary common to the appropriate discipline.

Working knowledge of conformity standards in use in area of expertise.

What you’ll experience working at UL:

Communicates project status and results to clients through frequent contact and by preparing reports. Prepares Follow-Up Service Procedures and information pages.

Strong written & verbal communication

Ability to work well as a team and interact with different groups of people

Minimum Level 1 First Aid - Level 2 training will be provided

Understanding of OH&S guidelines and safety regulations

A valid drivers’ license with a clean drivers abstract– company vehicle supplied for work related travel

·MS Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)

· Manage safety risk of trade contractors

· Knowledge of safety legislation and WorkSafe BC regulations

· Certification as a Construction Safety Officer

· Level 3 First Aid or L2 with Transportation Endorsement and knowledge of Industrial First Aid

· Flagging ticket experience is an asset

· Maintain and cleaned, well-organized, and inventoried the first aid trailer

Experience with computerized maintenance management systems such as Maximo, SAP or similar would be considered an asset;

Conduct monthly safety meetings in consultation with site management;

Conduct periodic emergency response drills with crews, a shared responsibility with site management;

Assist management with incident investigations, incident cause determination and analysis;

Assist management to organize training for a variety of safety topics;

Assist management to develop, collect and interpret key safety performance indicators;

●Education in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management.

●Working knowledge of safety management information system.

●Ensure proper safety training/certification of workers.

●A Minimum four years experience as a Safety officer within British Columbia of construction technique and methodology

●Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

●Conduct site orientations, safety meetings and site inspections;

Computer skills with experience using software such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point

Report any anticipated loss of work time to the Safety Manager as soon as possible after an injury has occurred

Experience on a residential construction site

Well-developed interpersonal skills and ability to influence others

Experience conducting investigations and safety audits

Provide safe working conditions for all workers, sub-trades and visitors on/around the site

Trains and carries out drills and exercises on how to manage emergency situations.

Previous site safety officer experience.

Must have level 2 safety officer qualifications

Inspects the site to ensure it is a hazard-free environment.

Is part of the project safety council and leads all efforts to enhance safety

The safety officer reviews and approves all subcontractor’s safety plans

Interact with the project management team, contractors and workers

Achieved or have a plan or path towards achieving one of the following certifications/designations: CSO, NCSO, CRST

Interpersonal skills and strong customer service orientation

Strong written and oral communication skills

Strong organization, analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

Support the development and maintenance of all safety documentation, reporting, and tracking requirements
