The Opportunity:
Liberty Mutual Global Risk Solutions (GRS) is looking for a Senior Project Manager for the Multinational Program Group (MPG), this group started in January 2021 to empower GRS underwriters to confidently pursue and write multinational programs. The 14-member team has representation in all the major GRS geographical regions; North America, LSM Europe, LATAM & APAC.
We are seeking a strong project manager to lead a series of MPG projects that contributes to MPG’s priorities of Technology and People Enabled process, Educate & Empower Underwriters, Create Trusted Network Partners and Management Information Systems. In addition to supporting MPG directly the SPM will work cross functionally with the Surety Global Service Center (GSC) for 30% to 40% of their time to identify synergies, best practices and drive consistency of process where beneficial. This person will perform complex project work, including research and analysis, structuring of project plans, creation of RACI assignments for identified work streams and prioritization of the series of projects.
They will work independently and partner with and work closely with direction from the MPG general manager, MPG directors and underwriting advisor on the more complex tasks. The MPG project manager will collaborate with the MPG operations managers around the globe in their respective regions understanding the interconnected aspects of the business and regional operational strategy and business objectives. They will manage projects that are non-cyclical and varied, aligning with the project management life cycle (initiating/defining; planning; executing; close-out) and supporting business priorities. May also perform some project work, such as research and analysis.
At this level, the PM manages a portfolio of projects to include those considered complex in nature with function-wide and/or SBU-wide impact. Provides updates to the general manager and collaborates with manager regarding highly complex matters requiring escalation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Adeptly builds consensus and gains buy-in among stakeholders across the organization focused on where MPG has GRS identified line-of-business multinational opportunities.
  • Escalates and works to resolve issues that serve as roadblocks and/or place project objectives at risk. Including identifying critical stakeholders in product, actuarial, reinsurance, finance legal and claims. Manages project governance (steering) and sponsors andidentifies and provides visibility into trade-offs between options, while strongly influencing recommended approach to project leaders.
  • In addition to project management, may also perform some of the work defined in the project roles and responsibilities.
  • Manages a portfolio of projects to include those considered complex in nature with function-wide and/or SBU-wide impact. Examples of complexity: highly technical, substantial budget, high visibility, long tail, many stakeholders crossing multiple functional groups, outside U.S. arena. The projects will be aligned to MPG’s four priorities identified, Technology and People Enabled process, Educate & Empower Underwriters, Create Trusted Network Partners and Management Information Systems. The MPG project manager will work with the MPG team on each workstream to create clear project plans for the outlined, task, deliverables, and metrics. Including RACI charts, and metrics and timelines for success.
  • Plans activities/tasks that will deliver the desired results and oversees day-to-day work and monitoring of progress towards goals. Ensures resources are optimally sourced and deployed.
  • Defines the business case with input from stakeholders. Identifies and gains agreement on project objectives, scope, timing, and resources. Prioritizes and develops implementation plan to execute on critical tasks. Identifies opportunities for optimal resourcing of standard work, including outsourcing and technology solutionsworking with COE, shared services & service teams, leveraging GRS Office of Operation available models inclusive of staffing models. Analyzes the use of systems and tools to streamline workflows and engages with the discovery and framing IT team on the MVP development and long-term end to end multinational process.
  • Performs project close-out steps to include identifying lessons learned/best practices to inform the success of future projects. Applies continuous improvement methodologies throughout the project management lifecycle.
  • Conducts project meetings and prepares regular reports to communicate the status of projects to stakeholders within and beyond the project team. Establishes and evaluates opportunities for operational excellence & process improvements. Works with MPG team on proposed Service Level Agreement (SLA’s) to build reporting capabilities on key metrics, and performance KPIs for MPG SLA deliverables.
Requirements
  • Strong ability to adapt and address unique challenges in collaborative and creative ways.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in isurance industry to include project management work.
  • Project management certification strongly preferred.
  • Expert-level ability in managing all aspects of the project management life cycle for multiple projects at one time to include those projects that are complex in nature.
  • Advanced degree preferred.
  • Displays advanced communication, organizational, analytical, critical thinking, and team building skills as well as advanced presentation, influencing, and relationship management skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of project management tools.
  • Competencies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced business operations knowledge to include understanding the function`s value chain and market conditions strongly preferred.
