Quality Assurance Automation Lead

The Automated Testing Expert will lead a small team of 2 and will double as a hands-on tester. This is an IoT product so candidates MUST HAVE experience testing complete systems plus the parts that make up the complete system such as hardware, sensors, mesh network connectivity, MQTT, Gateways, routers, wifi, cloud, and software (embedded and web).

This is a very unique role as there are many elements that this person needs to be highly skilled with. This includes testing web-based software, testing low-level embedded firmware, API-level testing, hardware, and overall system-level testing for functionality. This is an IoT-based company whose product consists of software, hardware, cables, sensors, and other hardware, therefore system-level testing involves testing the entire product.

This person should be considered a true "consultant" within the Testing community. This means the client will rely on you to come in as the expert rather than the company telling you how to approach this role.

Most testing is done manually now, but the company wishes to automate as much as possible. This person has to have extensive experience in overall testing, with deep experience in manual and EXPERT-level experience in Automated testing across applications, hardware, and overall system testing.

This includes system functionality testing, regression testing, and some smoke testing. Programmers test their own units.

It is imperative that this person is an Automated testing expert with deep experience in setting up Automated testing environments AND being able to write test scripts using Cypress (or python).

Must-Have Requirements:

• Experience using test/defect tracking management tools (TestRail, JIRA).
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, organizational and communication skills.
• Experience working with agile dev teams and good overall knowledge of the full SDLC, including DevOps, release management, and product support.
• Excellent ability to write test scripts using Cypress, python, or other scripting languages.
• Knowledge of Linux, and Windows environments.
• Experience with automated testing suites such as Selenium or other.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to formulate solutions for complex problems.
• MUST HAVE experience testing systems that involve hardware or data-gathering sensors; ideally IoT-based systems.
• Strong abilities to create documentation and training material.
• Experience setting up and managing an entire automated environment, deciding what gets automated and what stays manual.
• Demonstrated experience in functional, integration, system, performance, regression, and smoke testing in both manual and automated environments.
• Complete system functionality testing plus the ability to test individual components and software that make up the complete system.
• Excellent written, documentation, and verbal communication skills are required.
• Relentless attention to detail, accuracy, and functionality.
• 8+ years minimum of QA hands-on working experience. (Senior level).
• Web, mobile, applications, and hardware systems testing.
• Extensive experience leading, setting up, and, working in an automated testing environment.

Some core responsibilities:

• Manage users, access requests, security settings, and access rights for users within the system.
• Ensure the cloud services are secure by staying appraised of emerging security vulnerabilities; coordinate with external resources if necessary and provide mitigation and resolution of identified security issues.
• Create and communicate automation roadmap and plan, with specific milestones and deliverables.

Nice-to-Have Skills:

• A degree is not necessary but highly desirable. Computer Science, IS, Engineering.
• Experience with databases and data query tools to confirm testing results
• Certifications related to either testing or software development (ISTQB, CAST, CSQA, CQE, SMST, SCRUM, CSM, etc.)
