Job Description

Lead Product Designer – Polymers, AlumaPower Corporation

Do you want to be part of a revolutionary new company developing products based on a patented technology that can reduce society’s reliance on fossil fuels by creating a new kind of clean fuel?

If yes, you may be the perfect candidate to join us at AlumaPower, a well-funded cleantech start-up based in Southern Ontario, Canada.

AlumaPower’s breakthrough technology re-invents the aluminum-air battery as a ‘galvanic engine’ – an innovative long-life energy source that runs on recycled aluminum as a fuel. It produces only water vapour and heat as emitted by-products, while providing at least 4 times the energy density of lithium-ion batteries.

AlumaPower’s patented technology will introduce recycled, or ‘clean’ aluminum, as a fuel source displacing hydrocarbons and complementing other battery solutions such as lithium-ion.

You will be an exceptional Product Designer, adhering to an Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process, including Engineering Change Orders, Design Validated Plan & Reporting, Stage Gate Approvals, focused on using your existing deep knowledge in plastics/polymers high volume manufacturing, motive power transmission, and fluid handling. Your skills in designing molded components, drive trains and fluid flow will be used to help us create the fundamental building blocks for our early-stage production and engineering test devices, based on our patented Aluminum-Air power generation technology.

You will have previously played a role in bringing a product from concept to production through the support of design, testing, fabrication, and production of unique product ideas and solutions, including required documentation and compliance with necessary national and international quality and performance specifications.

You will take a hands-on approach to analyze our collective designs and participate in the continuous improvement of our product lines and technology platforms, including help where asked on developing and implementing policies, standards, procedures, and the development of new Intellectual Property.

We expect you to focus on using your skills in engineering project analysis to optimize our preliminary designs. You will also aid with our design calculations, budget analysis, life cycle costs, equipment selection, and ultimately will be expected to contribute to test plans and validate failure modes and life expectancy.

You will need to be able to write up reports on your work, when and where required, and submit these to the team for inclusion in an overall detailed progress report. You may also be required to assist in finding suppliers and potentially assisting in the development of grant/research funding proposals.

Above all, you will be wishing to thrive and succeed in an entrepreneurial environment and have a hunger to grow personally within the company.
