Position Title: Group Underwriting Assistant
Reports To: Manager, Group Underwriting
Department: Group Underwriting
Term: Permanent Full-Time
Work Arrangements: We are currently working remotely, and we will be moving to a hybrid model when our office renovation is complete (approximately September 2023), coming into the office a minimum of 2 days per week, every other week on designated days.
The Opportunity: Equitable Life is looking to hire an Underwriting Assistant to join our team! This is a great entry level opportunity where you can learn about the insurance industry while making a meaningful impact in the department and business. If you’ve got outstanding customer service skills along with a keen desire to learn and develop as an insurance professional, then this is the perfect opportunity for you!
What you will be doing:
  • Initial set up of the Renewal Report including manual entry of premiums, claims, rates and corresponding age/gender, industry and occupation factors for previous to current year comparison purposes
  • File set up to support Quotes, Renewals, New Issues and Amendments
  • Initiation of plan amendments including announcement and tracking tool update
  • Entry of Rate Confirmation details into Quote Manager and Group Manager for discount tracking and customer billing purposes
  • Initial review of Rate Confirmations to ensure that they comply with our published Discount policy
  • Accurate and timely implementation of Plan Member booklets for new policyholders, and existing policyholders to support amendment requests
  • Initial entry and required updates to Telus system (Tandem) to support accurate claims payment for plan member pay direct drug claims submitted at the pharmacy
  • On-line posting of policies and booklets to support Plan Administrator Web and Plan Member Web
  • Time tracking and updating of case logs to ensure appropriate measurement reporting
  • Liaise with M&T to ensure accuracy and timeliness of delivery booklets to customers
  • Distribution of specially requested and automated system generated reports
  • Audit and correction of employee data and entry of plan design to support Quote and Renewal rate calculation

  • Strong organizational skills with high attention to detail
  • Bilingualism in written and spoken French is an asset
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent computer skills, including MS Word and Excel
