The overriding purpose of the Emergency Response Trainer role is to provide technical and supervisory leadership to the Emergency Response program, Crisis and Emergency events in accordance with the Nunavut Mines Health and Safety Act and any applicable Industry guidelines and best practices as well as all internal and applicable policies, standards, procedures, guidelines and protocols. The candidate will work proactively with all Emergency Response Trainers, Mine Rescue Team members and Departmental Managers, Superintendents and Supervisors. The trainer will ensure the training guidelines are followed and the team and equipment are prepared to respond to all types of emergencies.
This is a site based role on a 3 week in and 3 week out rotation.
Main Accountabilities
Provide technical and supervisory leadership to the Emergency Response program in accordance with the Nunavut Mines Health and Safety Act and any applicable Industry guidelines and best practices.
These Include But Are Not Limited To
Develop site-specific emergency response procedures for emergency response teams to respond to potential emergency scenarios.
Surface Mine Rescue and emergency response
Confined Space Rescue
Personnel extraction
Vehicle and Equipment Incidents
Firefighting
High Angle/Rope rescue
SCBA use
Hazmat response
Land based spill response
Water and marine based spill response
Aircraft accidents
Search and Rescue for missing persons

• Develop and maintain a detailed list of emergency response equipment required to execute the response capability.
• Participate in incident investigations involving surface mine rescue and emergency response
• Provide the leadership to a volunteer emergency response team including onsite training to enable each member with response capabilities to respond to fire, medical, rescue and spill response emergencies as it may relate to a remote construction at a mining facility and as governed by the Nunavut Mines Health and Safety Act and any applicable Industry guidelines and best practices.
• Participate in the development, execution and debrief of spill response and emergency scenario exercises and conduct readiness drills for camp evacuations
• Provide leadership assistance, strategic vision, training and technical support to all aspects of the emergency response program
• Ensure equipment, materials and labor are maintained and in proper working order to respond to a fire, medical emergency, rescue or spill at all times.
• Ensure robust monitoring systems are in place and reviews are undertaken periodically related to fire safety and emergency response (weekly, monthly and annually).
• Act as incident commander and provide the leadership to the emergency response team and the following:
• Assist in permitting programs such as hot works and firewater testing.
• Establish and maintain a specific emergency response risk register and update as scope of work changes.
• Shall be the designated person appointed by the manager who is qualified in mine rescue instruction to be responsible to maintain the mine rescue equipment in good and serviceable condition at all times and to train mine rescue teams. Contribute to the identification of program priorities, design and direction and ensure that the emergency response program is implemented in accordance with the Nunavut Mines Health and Safety Act and any applicable Industry guidelines and best practices.
• Provide technical expertise in risk assessments and emergency response procedure development.

Main Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office
• Nunavut Mine Rescue training
• 5-7 years of Emergency Response related experience in the construction or mining industry
• NFPA 1001 or working towards
• Train the trainer
• First Aid Instructor training
• High Angle/Slope Rescue training
• Diploma froma vocational institution in Firefighting
• Experience in Behavior Based Observation.
• Gas monitoring
• WSCC supervisor training
