Job Description

Venor is proud to partner with our client, Shift, on their search for a Director of Operations. The Director of Operations is a key member of the senior leadership group. Working as part of a collaborative management team with the Director of Care, you have shared oversight and direction of both the outcomes and actions on the ground in the programs and services we operate. Collectively, you share this responsibility.


Individually, you are a subject matter expert on Operations, Logistics & Risk Management, and as such are directly responsible for all aspects of leadership and subsequent strategy execution in this area. Specifically, this includes human resources, asset management, critical policy, worker safety, client and activity risk management, scheduling, travel and logistics, health and safety related components and subsequent strategy execution of related areas of company activities.

As part of the leadership management team, you will collaboratively oversee relevant aspects of operations within multiple complex care facilities across the Canadian North. This includes but not limited to:


Human Resources

  • Ensure proactive staffing levels are maintained in all programs.
  • Coordinating program logistics including staff travel.
  • Oversee intentional initiatives designed to build a positive staff culture.
  • Oversee and navigate supplier relationships and make changes where needed
  • Lead major purchases relevant to program operations (i.e., buildings & vehicles)
  • Ensuring compliance and readiness of travel documents.

Health & Safety

  • Lead creation of Risk Management plans for all outdoor activity and program outings.
  • Staying current and knowledgeable on all relevant provincial and territorial health and safety regulations and take necessary actions to maintain compliance and smooth operations amid landscape.
  • Monitor critical incidents and provide leadership to mitigate staff injuries.
  • Managing and leading operational compliance with policy and expectations as per ministerial directive, internal and external policy, RFP expectations, etc.
  • Actively participate in annual policy manual update.
  • Lead health and safety procedures including JOHS committee, ensuring WSCC and internal policy compliance and guiding responses as per various provincial and territorial regulations.
  • Maintain and submit all WSCC filings.


Asset Management

  • Collaborating with government and local service providers and trades as needed including mechanics, appliance repair, carpenters, painters, etc.
  • Lead efforts to ensure positive operations and licensing compliance of physical infrastructure including assigned and rented properties and all vehicles by adopting and ensuring compliance with best practices for oversight and proactive maintenance and management.
  • Acting as primary point of contact for landlords, vehicle insurers and regulatory bodies as pertaining to operations.


Core Leadership

  • Lead competitive market research and develop organizational policy to establish best practices relating to staff recruitment and retention.
  • Acting as a member of the senior leadership team, role modelling high level interpersonal & communication skills.
  • Travel to sites as needed (typically twice per year)
  • Participate in on boarding and staff training initiatives
  • Participate in individual and team strategic planning efforts and lead efforts to meet quarterly and monthly goals.


The ideal candidate should possess excellent communication skills, both written, and verbal, allowing them to effectively convey information and interact with others. You should demonstrate a high level of organization and time management skills to meet deadlines efficiently. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills are essential for fostering positive connections and providing guidance to employees.


A bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification is required along with a minimum of five years of experience in a relevant leadership position. An annual clear criminal reference check and vulnerable sector screen will also be required.
